My parents took hundreds of pictures of their three decades in the UAE. They fill enormous, leather bound family albums, and those albums fill boxes and boxes in the shed at the bottom of their garden. For this project, I started re-visiting the places in those photos. Many of them have changed beyond recognition. This project is an inter-generational scrapbook that looks at my family’s story in the context of an ever changing and rapidly expanding cityscape. It’s the story of Dubai’s growth, and the story of the foreigners who left behind memories in this unsentimental city.
